I have been a practicing pediatric speech language pathologist for the past 15 years and have owned and operated Speech 4 Kidz, Inc. for the last 6. I was asked over a year ago to make an informative video for the occupation of speech language pathologists as well as for parents who are looking for the appropriate qualifications when searching for a speech language pathologist to help their child. I would love to expand on some of the information that was in the video to include more specific treatment methods to help children and their families with specific speech and langauage delays. As recent as 2 weeks ago, a parent in rural Wisconsin saw my video, looked up website and called me. Based on the information she gave me via phone, her child has a potentially severe speech/language diagnosis. She has been searching for an SLP anywhere near her and the closest is 2 hours away. I verbally gave her some therapy/treatment ideas to introduce some form of communication with her child but that is not enough. That phone call has made me realize that my passion in life is to help as many communicatively impaired children and their families as I can as those children are unable to help themselves and without intervention the stress placed on these families is life altering.
